Barrels of Blessings
Let's continue filling our food barrel! Our donations go to the food pantry at Bethany Lutheran
Church. Any donations of non-perishable foods are welcome, but specific items are suggested
for each month.
February: cereal, granola bars, crackers, rice, and potato flakes.
Remember, any type of non-perishable food is welcome throughout the year. It will make us
just as happy to give these items as it will be for them to receive the help. Thank you!
BSLC Academies: February and March
Dr. Roland "Cap" Ehlke, Professor of Philosophy at Concordia University, will conclude a 4-week study,
"Islam and Christianity," on February 11th. He will guide us in exploring the Islamic faith, especially finding
ways to compare and contrast it with Christianity.
On 2/18, 2/25, 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, and 4/15, Pastor Hillenbrand will lead married couples in studying "The Art of Marriage."
This six-week series will take place at Pastor Hillenbrand's house, next door to the church.
There is a $15/couple fee for workbooks. Please see Pastor Hillenbrand if you are interested in being part of the group.
Both BSLC Academy opportunities will take place after Sunday worship.
Children's Valentine's Party: February 10th from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Children ages 2-8 are invited to a Valentine party on the morning of February 10th. We will have
games, crafts, and snacks between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Please come with your children and enjoy.
Your friends and their children are invited too. If possible, please sign up in the narthex to help
us prepare. The Service Club will meet before the party, from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Youth Service: February 11th
On February 11th, our Sunday School and young people will participate in a Youth Service by singing,
ushering, and reading lessons. After church, the Sunday School will travel to Meadowmere to sing songs,
play instruments, and deliver handmade Valentines to the residents. All are welcome to join us!
Lenten Services and Suppers: Wednesdays 2/14 - 3/21
Please join us for our midweek services that begin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings from Ash Wednesday (2/14)
through March 21st. Pastor Hillenbrand is rotating pulpits with area pastors, so our services will be led by
one of the group each week. If you'd like, you can join us for a light supper beginning at 6:00 p.m. each Wednesday
evening before the service. Though not necessary, if you know in advance that you'll come, please put your name on
the sign-up sheets in the narthex.
Do you enjoy cooking? If you would be able to prepare a meal, please sign up for a convenient date. Feel free to
share the work with a friend, group, or committee. Your gift of a meal makes possible a meaningful time of rest
and fellowship during Lent.
New Church Directory: photo sessions week of February 19th
Be a part of our new church family album! Photographers will be here February 19th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.
Sign up sheets are available in the entry hall, or you can click on the image to schedule your photo session.
The online scheduling site is accessible Monday through Friday and is disabled over the weekend.
Save the Date for VBS: August 6-10
Mark your calendars: this year's Vacation Bible School will take place August 6-10. The theme is
"Splash Canoyon: Learning God's promises to be with us through life's wild ride." For children ages 3-12.
If you'd like to help plan crafts or decorations, speak to Pastor or Amy Hillenbrand; we'll be starting soon!
Board Games Wanted
We are collecting gently used board games to use with the Karenni families. Some will be helpful
in teaching numbers, colors, math skills, etc., and some will be given to the families. Thank you very much!
Prayer Shawl Ministry
If you are a knitter, you are invited to become part of a Prayer Shawl Ministry for the benefit of those
on our prayer list and for a mission project. You would be doing this on your own time and at your
convenience. The pattern is very simple, and as shawls are completed, they are blessed by the
pastor and then distributed. For more information, please contact Jo Fenske.
